What is Qur'an Buddies?

Qur'an Buddies (since 2021) is a community of sisters (Group or individual) committed to building a meaningful relationship with Allah through His Book.

We believe the Qur'an is not just meant to be recited it is meant to be understood, reflected upon, and lived. Through guided tafsir, thoughtful discussions, practical activities, and consistent reflection, we strive to move beyond reading the Qur'an to allowing it to shape our hearts, character, and everyday lives.

Our Approach

At Qur'an Buddies, we don't believe transformation comes from simply attending sessions.

We encourage every sister to actively engage with the Qur'an through:

• Authentic tafsir (Qur'anic commentary)

• Tadabbur (deep reflection)

• Weekly discussions on Sundays after Maghrib WAT via Zoom

• Personal reflection activities via Whatsapp

• Practical implementation of Qur'anic lessons

• Mutual encouragement and accountability within the community

Our goal is not just to complete the Qur'an, but to allow the Qur'an to transform us.

What can I expect?

As a member of Qur'an Buddies, you can expect to:

• Develop a deeper relationship with Allah through the Qur'an.

• Understand verses within their historical and contextual background.

• Learn practical lessons you can apply to your daily life.

• Build confidence in studying and reflecting on the Qur'an independently.

• Participate in thoughtful discussions with other sisters.

• Receive guided activities that encourage reflection beyond the weekly sessions.

• Grow in a supportive, respectful and faith-centred community.

Who is Qur'an Buddies for?

It is for sisters who:

• Desire a stronger relationship with Allah through the Qur'an.

• Are ready to commit to five months of consistent learning and reflection.

• Can dedicate approximately one hour each day to reading, reflection, and activities.

• Want more than simply completing the Qur'an…they want to understand it.

• Are willing to participate respectfully and contribute to a safe and encouraging environment.

• Desire personal growth and are willing to act upon what they learn.

Who may find this QB unsuitable?

This journey may not be suitable if:

• You are unable to dedicate regular time to the programme.

• You are looking for a passive course without personal effort or reflection.

• You are primarily looking for Tajweed or Arabic language classes.

• You are already studying the Surah/juz at an advanced scholarly level.

• You are not currently able to commit to the duration of the journey.

Do I need to know Arabic?

No.

You do not need to know Arabic to join. A translated copy of the Qur'an is sufficient, although any knowledge of Arabic you have will be an added benefit.

Is this a Tajweed or Qur'an recitation class?

No.

This programme focuses on understanding, reflecting upon, and living the Qur'an. While Qur'an recitation is generally encouraged, our sessions are centred on tadabbur rather than Tajweed instruction.

Where will sessions take place?

• Weekly live sessions via Zoom.

• Daily communication and support through WhatsApp.

When are the live sessions?

Every Sunday evening after Maghrib (Nigerian time). Around 7 or 7:30 pm

The exact time will be shared with all registered participants before the programme begins.

Who will be facilitating the programme?

Barakah Bashir

Founder of The Barakah Lifestyle Initiative, community development practitioner, and lifelong student of Islamic knowledge.

Barakah is passionate about creating spaces where women can build a meaningful and lasting relationship with Allah through understanding and living the Qur'an.
